Frequently Asked Questions of the Court

How does an attorney become Generally Admitted to the Southern District of Illinois?

Click on the link titled "Attorney Admission" within the "Attorney Information" section of the website. There are two Attorney Admission Packets. The packet can be completed for an attorney who can provide a copy of one of the following: An admission certificate to the Central or Northern District Court of Illinois, or a Certificate of Good Standing from a state court they've been admitted to. An attorney unable to provide that documentation will need to complete the General Admission packet which involves an attorney already admitted to the Southern District of Illinois sponsoring their motion.

How does an attorney request a Certificate of Good Standing or a replacement Admission Certificate from the court?

The cost for either a Certificate of Good Standing or replacement Admission Certificate is $19.00. The request should be made electronically, using the attorney's login and password. After logging in at CM/ECF, select Civil, then Certificate of Good Standing. The filer will be prompted to pay.gov for payment of the $19.00 fee. A request will be electronically generated and the attorney will receive their Certificate of Good Standing via the email linked to their CM/ECF account.
