Safety & Security

Due to heightened security measures, you will be required to show photo identification and undergo a security screening similar to what is conducted at an airport in order to enter either courthouse or federal building. Please plan your arrival time accordingly if you are reporting for a court proceeding or other scheduled matter.

Please note that the following items are not allowed:

No Electronic Devices

(this includes cell phones, cameras, Ipods, Ipads, Kindles, etc.)
NOTE: Attorneys are allowed to bring these devices, including laptops,
if they display a bar identification card.

No Food or Drinks

(including bottled water and other items not purchased in the building)

No Lighters

NO FIREARMS, OTHER WEAPONS OR
ANYTHING THAT MAY BE USED AS A WEAPON

(this includes knives, scissors, and manicure sets)

NOTE: The Illinois Concealed Carry Law does not override federal law. Any person entering the building with a firearm in his or her possession will be prosecuted under federal law. Concealed carry permit holders may store their firearms in a locked box within a vehicle when parked in a courthouse parking lot.
